Geography - Brazil is located in Eastern South America, bordering the Atlantic Ocean. Capital - Brasilia. Brazil covers nearly half of South America. Brazil is the continent's largest nation. Territory - 3,286,470 sq mi (8,511,965 sq km). Brazil shares its borders 10 South American countries: Uruguay, Argentina, Paraguay, Bolivia, Peru, Colombia, Venezuela, Guyana, Surinam, French Guyana. Only Ecuador and Chile not share borders with Brazil on South American continent. Brazil divided into the Brazilian highlands in the south, Amazon River Basin in the north. Over a third of Brazil is drained by the Amazon, more than 200 tributaries. The Amazon is navigable for ocean steamers to Peru upstream. Southern Brazil is drained by the Plata system - the Paraguay, Uruguay, Parana Rivers.
