Geography - Capital - Kuala Lumpur. Malaysia consists of two parts: a peninsula Malaysia or Western Malaysia, and the states of Sabah and Sarawak (Saravak), that are components East Malaysia - part of the island of Borneo. The general land area is 330 thousand sq. km.

Language - Malayan language is official, but widely distributed is also English, Chinese and Tamil.

Currency - Malaysian Ringgit. 1 USD = 4 Ringgits.

Transport - more than 40 airlines of the world fly To Malaysia. From Thailand and Singapore to Malaysia it is possible to come by rail. The basic cities of the country also are connected among themselves by international air transport and many are served by international comfortable express trains. On all island resorts of Malaysia it is possible to reach not only plane, but also ferry. The highways of the country are considered to be some of the best in the region. A high-speed highway (the North - South) passes throughout all of the peninsula, connecting Thailand, Malaysia and Singapore. By simply presenting the international driving licence, it is possible to take a rental vehicle on hire. The buses belong to various private companies, however activity of these firms is ctightly regulated by municipal authorities.

The communication (connection) - For local telephone conversations, it is possible to use public telephones with payment by coins or cards. The international telephone negotiation can be made using special phone casrds specifically sold by telephone vendors of the specific Telecom. To take advantage of public telephones, a telephone card is necessary for this purpose. In the majority of hotels there can be located direct international communications by paying the hotel a fee for services.

Electricity - Voltage is 220 volts; sockets with 3 apertures are used.

The customs rules - Visitors are allowed entry duty-free import of 200 cigarettes, 60 cigars, or 225 grammes of tobacco, and also 1 litre of alcoholic drinks. For import in the country of illegal drugs and their use, the law of Malaysia stipulates a death penalty, irrespective of a nationality, colour of skin and religion.

The souvenirs - Here can be purchased very exclusively tailored clothes, and rare strange artifacts perhaps that have been kept in an antique shop since colonial times. For souvenirs a tourists seem to like the refined products from local tin, Batik or Songket, the fabric manually painted by artists.

The tip - In Malaysia usually it is not accepted practice for giving people a tip. In hotels and restaurants you should definitely not try to tip because it is already included within a customary charge of 10 % for service. For tea service it is possible to give, if you have remained longer than usual and are pleased with the speed and quality of service.

The clothes - Throughout the year are recommended easy, free clothes from natural materials. For very formal cases the men will accept a costume with a tie or baronge shirt with a long sleeve, and women - dress or costume with a long sleeve blouse.

The rules of behaviour - Malaysians try to contain the country in cleanliness, the non-observance of this rule is punished by the penalty in 500 Ringgit. Any disrespect for the King or prime minister is not appreciated and can be punished on the spot...

Sanitary norms - Water as a whole is safe for drink, but it is more safe and reliable to drink boiled water nevertheless. Hot tea, coffee or sealed drinks in bottles are customary for visitors. We recommend taking with yourselves any personal prescribed medicines, where the bottles clearly display official labels in case questioned by authorities. Beware of iced drinks at other than international hotels.
